The L3C is a low-profit limited liability company (LLC), that functions via a business modality that is a hybrid legal structure combining the financial advantages of the limited liability company, an LLC, with the social advantages of a non-profit entity. An L3C runs like a regular business and is profitable, however, unlike a for-profit business, the primary focus of the L3C is not to make money, but to achieve socially beneficial aims, with profit making as a secondary goal.

Community Investing & Microfinance

Community Investing refers to the practice of capital being specifically directed to communities that are underserved by traditional financial services and that are marginalized, if not excluded, from mainstream economic markets. It provides these communities with access to credit, equity, capital and basic banking products through local or global organizations which combine the expertise of a financial institution with a commitment to serving lower income or distressed communities. NeXii services for these markets include:

• Capital Raising for MFI's, CDFI's and MIV's
• MFI and CDFI Debt Offerings
• Secondary Liquidity for Private Microfinance & CDFI Debt

These groups broadly provide financial services to ‘previously unbankable individuals and communities’ and a vehicle for providing capital for small businesses, social/low-income housing and community services such as child and health care. Microfinance are financial services that include lending and insurance for impoverished communities internationally. It has been included here with more traditional companies because it is essentially the banking sector for low income communities.
