In 2009, with the support of the Rockefeller Foundation initiative “Harnessing the Power of Impact Investing”, Nexii’s founding management team, Tamzin Ractliffe and Carol Tappenden brought together a small group of thought leaders from finance, philanthropy, policy, research, nonprofits, and social enterprise practice for a four day workshop to discuss and debate the potential of, and for a coordinated global response to grow the impact investment sector.
The meeting focused on understanding the requirements of, and framework for a global platform and the mechanisms through which it might facilitate more effective and sustainable social impact investment and discuss the emerging trends around the capital markets and impact investment across the globe. Now, just two years after that first meeting – under the rubric of the Global Stock Investment Exchange (GSIX) – Nexii has successfully established the world’s first publicly regulated stock exchange dedicated to impact investments – the iX or Impact Exchange Board in collaboration with the Stock Exchange of Mauritius. Nexii has also established an investment information platform with regulated clearing and settlement through a CSD in South Africa and is working to delvier a regulated private placement platform in the EU in 2012.
