Central to Nexii’s mission and critical to the achievement of its goals is the role it plays in building cohesiveness and connections between actors in the field whilst also providing education, advocacy and investment support services to grow understanding and practice standards.
Nexii’s field-building activities are implemented through its global networks, supported by local partnership and aim to elaborate thought, insight and knowledge about development sector needs and models for implementation.
Nexii’s various research and design programmes include:
- Understanding the barriers limiting access to affordable finance for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in South Africa
- Comparative analysis of corporate structures and their related tax and regulatory policies in order to define a possibilities for a social business structure in South Africa
- Understanding the environment applicable to, and models appropriate for a risk-capital platform for equity based investment in rural SMEs in Latin America
- Conceptualising the design of private sector investment mechanism to facilitate broad based investment in high impact bonds. Nexii is currently working on the application of a renewable energy impact bond in various developing world contexts.
